Good Night & Good Morning was formed in Champaign IL in 2006 by guitarist and vocalist Ryan Brewer and vibraphonist Pat Elifritz. Sharing a mutual love for the minimalist songwriting of The American Analog Set and Low as well as the droning ambiance of Stars of the Lid, the two wrote, recorded and toured the American DIY circuit for the next three years before releasing their self-titled EP in 2009. This caught the attention of Luxembourg-based Own Records, who reissued the EP in 2011 after the band had relocated to Chicago. Soon after, the band added drummer Sahan Jayasuriya to the lineup and spent the remainder of the year self-producing their debut full length. The result was the beautifully hazy Narrowing Type, released in 2012 on Own Records. The album built upon the spacious minimalism of their debut while expanding their sonic language, both rhythmically and texturally. The band quietly played their final show in 2012, but after a 10-year anniversary vinyl re-issue of Narrowing Type via Energy Crow Records, the band has found renewed interest from fans old and new who for years had been unable to locate copies of the record. GN&GM’s Fall 2023 appearance at Pygmalion is their first public performance in 11 years, and will fittingly take place right in their hometown.
