Ann Flesor Beck is a third generation Greek confectioner and independent scholar. Ann and her sister, Devon, reopened their grandfather’s Flesor’s Candy Kitchen in 2004 after it had been closed for almost thirty years in downtown Tuscola, IL. Upon reopening the confectionery and soda fountain, second and third generation Greek Americans began to share their family histories of first generation Greeks coming to central Illinois and opening confectioneries in small towns and urban centers. Ann threaded those stories into her dissertation. Sweet Greeks is the compilation of great stories from Greek immigrants who came to America, became entrepreneurs, and established themselves as an integral part of our food history.
